Spring Hamster Routine

The Logical Heart Knows Best

I’ve discovered over the years that I don’t like working out at a gym unless it’s in a group class or if I work out with a partner. I loved going to Planet Fitness with my daughter Aidan one summer, that was fun! I also loved going to the new YMCA they’d built in Addis. LA back in the mid-2000’s but I only liked their classes. I find gym equipment monotonous and tedious.

I do like working out at home though along to videos. I did Denise Austin for years and more recently Jillian Michaels. When we moved here I’d given away all of my exercise gear and DVDs. I’ve been going for walks, plus doing Yoga with Adriene sporadically since moving. I want to get back to more rigorous workouts and finally today I bought some 10-pound hand weights and a stability ball, yay! Time to have sore muscles again, yay? ?

My hope is that I will restore more energy this way. I really did a number on myself over these past 10 years. I guess since it took so long for me to deteriorate, it may take longer than I expect to build myself back up, so I’m trying to stay patient (not my strongest suit when it comes to expectations of myself). Guess I really don’t have much of a choice. Some things just take time to get better. That’s the way most things work, they slowly build until they reach a tipping point, then watch out! Heh 🙂

I’m excited to get back into a fitness routine and am so appreciative of all of the free videos and tutorials online! It’s so convenient and easy. It’s hard to make excuses for not exercising, but somehow I manage, lmao! 😀

I’ll try not to do too much stomping and jumping, I don’t want to upset Tag the dog and his human who lives below. They might think we’re having an earthquake, lmao!

The sore muscles though…meh 🙂 Oh well, I hobble around anyway, so what’s a little more extreme hobbling gonna do? I can take it! I’m hardcore, yeah (I’m trying to convince myself).

I’m gonna start off with Denise Austin’s Shrink Your Fat Zones, I did that one so much that at one point I knew it by heart. Not up to Jillian, too jumpy/stompy and I’d die, lol.

Do y’all have any suggestions for a good low impact full body workout routine? What are your favorites?

Gonna be a spring hamster during spring 2020, woot!

I will do updates on my progress to keep me accountable. I mean it works. Look how I’ve kept up with the daily creative output challenge. I’ve just gotta make up my mind, then do it. It becomes a habit, like getting dressed, brushing your teeth, watching Netflix, lol.

If I want things to get better, I’ve gotta keep experimenting, exploring, try different things to see what works. I’ve got to be accountable and choose healthy practices, they really do work. It’s just a matter of taking small steps and building upon them gradually and you become more adept and can add more as you go until you get to where you want to be.

It’s natural, like learning to do anything, you practice and it becomes second nature. You gravitate towards what works for you and you can let go of what’s not working. No need to hurry or beat yourself up. Just keep going. There are ebbs and flows. We become stronger, more adaptable, flexible and resilient the more we reach, stretch, adventure, extending into new territories, curiosities, the more we share and work together…it’s how we stay enlivened and engaged.

My California relatives have inspired me to keep going, I have many productive years left in me still if my genes are anything like theirs, lol. I wanna make sure I share all the music left in me, how about y’all? What small steps will y’all take in a fitness routine, curiosity, passion or adventure today?

How will you get your spring hamster on? ?

Join in the hobbling sore muscle fun! Your future self will thank you.
