Nature Walks for Health
In addition to journaling and meditation, nature walks, physical activity plus mindful breathing practices help keep you healthy. These are simple, effective, healthy habits that most anyone can maintain in their busy lives.
Since I had Covid at the end of February 2020, I’ve had a post-viral syndrome called long covid or post-acute sequelae SARS-CoV-2 infection (PASC). This has negatively affected my ability to maintain my typical level of exercise and fitness. It’s been a roller coaster because too much activity can make the symptoms worse. I can have post-exertional malaise(PEM) among other symptoms. It can be quite similar to myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS).
I also have a chronic condition called Mal de Debarquement Syndrome (MdDS) that is exacerbated by the long covid. So it’s been frustrating and challenging, but whenever I am not in a flare-up, I increase my activity as tolerated and keep trying to maintain my health as best I can. Anything that stresses my body mentally or physically can cause a flare-up, so it’s made me really pay attention to what my body tells me. I’ve been in the habit of mind over matter and just ignoring things and pushing through. This mentality does not work for me anymore. It causes harm to me now when I try to just push through.
After I had the vaccine in April and it seemed to help? Or maybe it was just the passage of time, but I could increase my activity more and more, adjusting if I had increased symptoms and PEM. By the summer, I began taking long walks and in early fall, I was even running a little. Then at the end of September, I tried doing a full-body workout. Big mistake! I had to stop going for walks. It set me back, but I had to try?
Most recently I’ve been flat on my a** since I got the booster and flu shot on November 4th. Today is the first day I felt more at baseline, so what did I do? I vacuumed, lol. Now I’m going grocery shopping. Hope I don’t pay for it tomorrow. We shall see. Anyhow, even though it’s been challenging, I still try to maintain my health as best I can!
