My Nursing Journey

The Logical Heart Knows Best

Becoming a nurse in 1992 and then quitting nursing after 27 years has been life-changing. I am thankful for nursing and how it helped me take care of my family. The flexibility allowed me to spend more time with the kids as they were growing. Along the way, I met many amazing clients and coworkers and learned important life lessons. I grew in ways I wouldn’t have otherwise. Over the years, the level of funding, support, staffing, and management progressively declined to where it was not a system I could be a part of any more or else be complicit. It became too stressful and unsafe, leading to burnout for me, along with disillusionment. The level of pay for what we did and the high personal safety risk were also not worth it. In December 2019, I got out of nursing by decreasing our living expenses and tried working less stressful jobs at entry-level wages. I chose my well-being over nursing and have zero regrets. ♡
